Youngstown State University senior Elizabeth Urig of Canfield, Ohio, has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi to study abroad in Budapest, Hungary. Urig, an applied mathematics and mechanical engineering major, is one of only 50 students nationwide to receive the award. She will be studying advanced mathematics in Budapest for the Fall 2017 semester through the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics program. Selection is based on an applicant's academic achievement, campus and community service, relation of travel to academic preparation and career goals, a personal statement, letters of recommendation, and acceptance into a study abroad program. Phi Kappa Phi is the the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Thirty-six Counseling students at Youngstown State University were inducted recently into the Eta Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota International, an honor society dedicated to promoting excellence in the counseling profession.

Ten Youngstown State University were awarded paid internships under the 2017 Nonprofit Leadership Summer Honors Internship Program, thanks to a $65,000 grant that the Raymond John Wean Foundation awarded to the Center for Nonprofit Leadership at YSU's Williamson College of Business Administration. The program offers full-time, 12-week paid internships for qualified YSU students with career-related work experience in a nonprofit or public sector organization. The internship program runs May 15 to Aug. 4. This is fourth time YSU has offered the internships.
