Youngstown State University is a comprehensive urban research university that offers over 11,500 students more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs of study. As a major educational and economic development resource in the region, YSU is known for its focus on academic research and creative programs that transform its students into successful professionals, scholars and leaders.

A graduate school internship in Uganda is giving Youngstown State University alumna Sarah Perrine first-hand experience in the misery and discomfort that comes with a lack of clean water. Now the Medina, Ohio, native is launching a campaign to provide a dependable water source for the people of Masaka, Uganda, the small rural village where she's been serving an internship since early April. Three Youngstown State University graduate students created an exhibit, titled "We Made It! We Sold It! We Bought It!", for display at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor. The exhibit, which opened in early May, features a wide range of household artifacts that people of the industrial northeast manufactured, bought and sold during America's golden industrial era (1945-1965).

YSU senior awarded grant to study abroad

Youngstown State University senior Elizabeth Urig of Canfield, Ohio, has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi to study abroad in Budapest, Hungary. Urig, an applied mathematics and mechanical engineering major, is one of only 50 students nationwide to receive the award. She will be studying advanced mathematics in Budapest for the Fall 2017 semester through the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics program. Selection is based on an applicant's academic achievement, campus and community service, relation of travel to academic preparation and career goals, a personal statement, letters of recommendation, and acceptance into a study abroad program. Phi Kappa Phi is the the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. YSU students awarded paid Nonprofit Leadership internships

Ten Youngstown State University were awarded paid internships under the 2017 Nonprofit Leadership Summer Honors Internship Program, thanks to a $65,000 grant that the Raymond John Wean Foundation awarded to the Center for Nonprofit Leadership at YSU's Williamson College of Business Administration. The program offers full-time, 12-week paid internships for qualified YSU students with career-related work experience in a nonprofit or public sector organization. The internship program runs May 15 to Aug. 4. This is fourth time YSU has offered the internships.
