Youngstown State University is a comprehensive urban research university that offers over 11,500 students more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs of study. As a major educational and economic development resource in the region, YSU is known for its focus on academic research and creative programs that transform its students into successful professionals, scholars and leaders.

Business students selected for John D. Beeghly Fellows program

Rebecca Catlos, Steven Boschert and Zachary Clark, students from the Williamson College of Business Administration, were selected as the John D. Beeghly Fellows for the 2024 Spring Semester. The John D. Beeghly Fellows program provides students with a paid fellowship working with the Ohio Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Export Assistance Network (SBDC EAN) and the APEX Accelerator at Youngstown State University. Projects include domestic and international market research, financial modeling, export readiness studies, business viability analysis, cash flow projections, sales forecasting, marketing & social media strategies, research on government contracting opportunities, marketing capability statements and outreach for government contracting efforts. Students gain valuable career-related work experience to competitively position themselves in the job market upon graduation.

Stellar Journey: A glimpse into an Astronomy and Physics student's pursuits

In the realm of Astronomy and Physics, Alexa Beyer, senior astronomy and physics student at YSU stands out as a bright star on the academic horizon. Beyer has been completely immersed in her field of study, conducting research, presenting at a national conference and balancing life as a student athlete, member of the Sokolov Honors College and active member in her community. Originally from DeWitt, Michigan, Beyer came to YSU to play Lacrosse, drawn to the small city feel. "I love Youngstown because it was a small university, but it was big enough. There's a great community surrounding it and the athletic programs seem super promising," Beyer said. "As soon as I stepped on campus, I knew this is definitely where I want to go."

Youngstown State student earns prestigious Truman Scholarship

Jason Hess, a Mechanical Engineering major and member of the Sokolov Honors College from West Middlesex, Pennsylvania is Youngstown State University's first-ever recipient of the prestigious Truman Scholarship. Hess was announced as a 2023 Truman Scholar by the Board of Trustees of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. The Truman Scholarship is the premier graduate scholarship for aspiring public service leaders in the United States. "Jason perfectly exemplifies the outstanding leadership potential, commitment to a career in public service, and academic excellence the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation is looking for when naming their scholars," said Helen K. Lafferty, interim president of YSU. "This is a well-deserved honor and we celebrate Jason's hard work in the classroom and his dedication to make an impact in his community."
