Youngstown State University is a comprehensive urban research university that offers over 11,500 students more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs of study. Business students study abroad in Japan

Fifteen students and two faculty members from the Williamson College of Business Administration at YSU toured the Fushimi Inaris Shrine, Nanzeji Temple, Osaka Castle along with other landmarks and visited Japanese businesses during a Global Learning Experience program. The 10-day trip in January introduced YSU students to Japanese cultures, international businesses and explored resources available to startups in the global marketplace. Students attended meetings with executives of Japanese and American companies, including Morgan Stanley, Tokyo Stock Exchange, Abbott, Omron and Havas Japan. Students also met with trade officials from the U.S. Consulate in Osaka and visited the Entrepreneurial Museum of Challenge and Innovation. Tours of well-known landmarks in and around Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo, as well as cultural activities were also part of the trip that counts as an upper-division elective course.

YSU students study abroad in China

Ten YSU students and two faculty members from the Department of Psychology completed a two week study abroad trip in China in May and learned alongside ten Chinese students from Sichuan Normal University in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. Together, the students read and discussed literature from Psychology and Education. Students and faculty also experienced American and Chinese music, food and other cultural components.

YSU students visit Italy for Global Learning Experience

Fourteen Youngstown State University students traveled to Italy earlier this spring as part of the Williamson College of Business Administration's Global Learning Experience program. GLE introduces students to Italian entrepreneurs and international businesses and explores the resources available to startups in the global marketplace. Students attended meetings with executives of Italian companies, visited international businesses and government development agencies in Rome and Florence, and embarked on several other education sessions, including a local market immersion experience. Tours of well-known landmarks in and around Florence and Rome were also part of the credit-bearing trip that counts as an upper division elective course.

Recent YSU grad works to create clean water supply for

A graduate school internship in Uganda is giving Youngstown State University alumna Sarah Perrine first-hand experience in the misery and discomfort that comes with a lack of clean water. Now the Medina, Ohio, native is launching a campaign to provide a dependable water source for the people of Masaka, Uganda, the small rural village where she's been serving an internship since early April. She's determined to see the project complete by the time her internship ends July 30.

YSU senior awarded grant to study abroad

Youngstown State University senior Elizabeth Urig of Canfield, Ohio, has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi to study abroad in Budapest, Hungary. Urig, an applied mathematics and mechanical engineering major, is one of only 50 students nationwide to receive the award. She will be studying advanced mathematics in Budapest for the Fall 2017 semester through the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics program. Selection is based on an applicant's academic achievement, campus and community service, relation of travel to academic preparation and career goals, a personal statement, letters of recommendation, and acceptance into a study abroad program. Phi Kappa Phi is the the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
