Youngstown State University is a comprehensive urban research university that offers over 11,500 students more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs of study. Student advances in Fulbright selection, first at YSU in four years

Emily Henline of Austintown, a senior at Youngstown State University, has been selected a semifinalist in the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Program and hopes to go to South Korea to earn a master's degree. YSU's first semi-finalist since 2016, Henline's application is now under review by the Fulbright Commission, and she will be notified this spring if she is a finalist.

YSU student's research accepted at four prestigious academic conferences

Isabella Davis, a master's degree student in English, will have four opportunities to share her work with scholarly communities. The Sacramento, Calif., native who earned bachelor's degrees in Political Science and Spanish at YSU, has been accepted to present her research in linguistic anthropology at four academic conferences this year. Her work focuses on a recent grassroots proposal in Argentina and other southern cone countries of South America to use the letter "e" in Spanish for individuals who do not identify within the current binary system of gender (i.e. amige instead of amigo or amiga). Davis' research analyzes comments made on social media related to the "e" proposal. Davis said she next hopes to continue exploring the uses and effects of gender-inclusive language by speaking with members of the gender non-conforming community in Latin America.

YSU Honors College announces "Student of the Week" honorees for second half Fall 2019

The Honors College at Youngstown State University has recognized several students as part of the Honors Student of the Week initiative for the second half of the Fall 2019 semester. The college launched the program earlier this year to recognize academic excellence, community engagement and student success. The Honors Student of the Week is announced each Sunday in the college's weekly e-newsletter sent to Honors College students, staff and faculty and also posted on the YSU website. There are currently 1,266 students in the college.

Civil Engineering students take top prize

A team of Youngstown State University Civil Engineering students won the 2019 Student Design Competition of the Northeast Section of the Ohio Water Environment Association. The team will move on to the Water Environment Federation's Student Design Competition at the WEF Technical Exhibition and Conference in September in Chicago.

Graduates receive SAP Appreciation Awards

Five students receiving Master of Accountancy degrees at Youngstown State University's Spring Commencement earlier this month are the recipients of SAP Appreciation Awards. Students are being recognized for satisfactory completion of a program of study by the SAP product portfolio, as offered by YSU. SAP, headquartered in Walldorf, Germany, is the market leader in enterprise application software and serves 437,000 customers in 180 countries, including 92 percent of Forbes Global 2000 companies and 98 of the world's 100 most valued brands.

Youngstown State University students are working at an array of nonprofits through a summer internship program designed to provide students with career-related work experience in a nonprofit or public sector organization. The program, offered through the YSU Center for Nonprofit Leadership and funded by the Raymond Wean Foundation, runs from May 20 to Aug. 9.

YSU students in the Williamson College of Business Administration finished first in sportsmanship and collegiality at the Ohio HR Games at Ashland University. The games were a Jeopardy-style competition where teams had the opportunity to test their Human Resource knowledge against students from other universities in Ohio. The YSU team placed third overall.
