Usually you find X-ray diffraction labs in corporate settings and large research universities. But our university is one of very few predominantly undergraduate institutions in the country to have a state-of-the art X-ray facility of its own. We employ analytical materials instrumentation not found anywhere else in the region, and incorporate research activities from the YSU Center of Excellence in Materials Science and Engineering and the Ohio Hub for Innovation and Opportunity in Advanced Materials Commercialization.

The YSU-BaccMed program is a premier program for premier students committed to primary health care, particularly for medically underserved populations. Students graduating from this program will have the scientific and mathematical foundations, medical training, and logistical and sociological tools to build a professional, scientific career providing state-of-the-art medical care to underserved populations as a primary care physician.

Our mission is to prepare the current and future workforce with industry 4.0 skills through alternative learning pathways focused on advanced manufacturing, electric vehicles, energy storage, information technology, business and professional skills.

Our workforce and education programs serve YSU students, K-12, companies and community members looking to upskill, reskill or enter into new career pathways. We engage our learners through the online YSU Skills Accelerator and through classroom, hybrid and experiential learning.
