YSU student Renee Pitts of Niles, Ohio, is a member of honor society that receives international recognition

Renee Pitts of Niles, Ohio is a member of Youngstown State University's chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, an international honor society dedicated to promoting excellence in the counseling profession. The YSU chapter was recently selected as the 2013-14 recipient of the Outstanding Chapter Individual Program Award.

Pitts is majoring in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at YSU.

The YSU chapter received the award for hosting the Advocacy and Leadership Summit in February 2013. The goal of the 6-hour workshop was to teach the importance of advocating for the counseling profession and to help students and professionals identify leadership qualities.

Chi Sigma Iota has a membership of more than 90,000 professionals and professionals-in-training worldwide and more than 350 campus-based chapters. YSU's Eta Chapter, the second created in Ohio, has initiated more than 700 members since 1985. Membership is balanced between current student and professional members.

The chapter's 29th Annual Induction Banquet will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in the DeBartolo Stadium Club.
