YSU student Natalie Halavick wins award in international Math contest

Natalie Halavick of Vienna, OH (44473) is a member of a Youngstown State University Mathematics Team that won a Meritorious Award at this year's international Mathematical Contest in Modeling, placing YSU in the top 9 percent of nearly 9,000 teams worldwide. Halavick, a Mathews High School graduate, is majoring in Mathematics at YSU.

In all, YSU had six teams and 18 students participating in the contest. "I am so impressed by the outstanding performance of our students and their eagerness to use mathematics to solve challenging real-world problems," said Angela Spalsbury, chair of the YSU Mathematics and Statistics Department. "We are very proud of our students and the faculty that help to prepare them."
