YSU student Karen Bell of Salem, OH, is intern at The News Outlet

2013 Apr 5

Youngstown State University student Bell Karen of Salem, OH, is among the interns working this semester for The News Outlet, a news-reporting project led by YSU's journalism program.

Bell is a junior majoring in Journalism at YSU.

Founded and operated at YSU, The News Outlet gives students experience reporting and producing investigative and enterprise stories that are published and/or broadcast by news media throughout the area, including The Vindicator in Youngstown, The Beacon Journal in Akron and WYSU-FM and Rubber City radio stations.

This academic year, News Outlet interns have produced more than 50 print stories and 35 radio stories. Interns have traveled to Pennsylvania and New York to report on the gas and oil industry, and students are producing a special series on the Youngstown mayoral race, including an examination of the racial politics. Some of the News Outlet work about gas and oil drilling in Texas that was published in The Vindicator is a finalist for the Ohio Associated Press Community Service Award.
