YSU student Jacob Schriner-Briggs of Liberty, Ohio, excels at regional moot court competition

Jacob Schriner-Briggs of Liberty, Ohio, a Philosophy major at Youngstown State University placed first in the team competition of the Midwest Regional Tournament of the American Collegiate Moot Court Association. Schriner-Briggs will advance to the national finals in January at Arizona State University. He also was fourth in the individual oratory category.

The regional competition at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, included teams from universities throughout the Midwest, including the University of Chicago and Case Western Reserve University. At the competition, students simulate presenting legal arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court.

"This is critical thinking and oral advocacy at the highest level possible at the undergraduate level, against the top schools in the nation," said Ron Slipski, YSU team coach, adjunct YSU professor and local attorney.
