Tabatha Turney of Leetonia, Ohio, participates in Youngstown State University Bahamas Field Program

2013 Mar 21

Tabatha Turney of Leetonia, Ohio, was among a group of Youngstown State University students who participated in the YSU Bahamas Field Program during spring break earlier this month.

Turney is a Sophomore majoring in Pre-Med.

The students, part of the Honors Tropical Ecology Class in the Department of Geography, spent nine days at the Gerace Research Center at the College of the Bahamas on San Salvador Island. Students hiked, snorkeled, explored caverns, sampled Bahamian culture and learned about the island's rock formations, weather, environment and history, as well as the impact of pollution on the island. Under the leadership of Ron Shaklee, professor of Geography and the director of the YSU University Scholars and Honors Programs, more than 1,000 YSU students have participated in classes and research in the Bahamas since 1988.
