Michael Soots of Mc Donald helps YSU Bass Fishing Team to regional win

2017 Aug 16

Youngstown State University Bass Fishing Club member Michael Soots of Mc Donald, Ohio, helped earn the club fourth place in a regional college fishing competition. Soots is a Criminal Justice major and a McDonald High School graduate.

The team now qualifies to compete in the YETI Fishing League Worldwide College Fishing National Championship, to be scheduled in spring 2018. The YSU anglers caught five largemouth bass with a total weight of just over 14 pounds at the regional contest in Lake Chautauqua, N.Y., winning a $500 prize for their club. The top 10 teams qualified for the national competition.

YSU's Bass Fishing Club is beginning its sixth year, under the direction of Tessa Padilla, coordinator of Sport Clubs, and adviser Marko Marinkovich, recreations facilities manager.

YETI FLW College Fishing is a nationwide competitive bass-fishing program open to full-time students at four-year colleges and universities and community colleges nationwide.
