Jonathon Burns of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity inducted into Order of Omega at YSU

2016 Apr 20

Youngstown State University student Jonathon Burns of Poland, Ohio, was inducted into the Order of Omega Greek National Honorary Society for the 2015-16 academic year. Burns is majoring in Biology Pre Medical at YSU and is a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.

The Order of Omega was founded at the University of Miami in 1959 by a group of fraternity men who felt that individuals in the Greek community should be recognized for their service to both the fraternity system and the university.

In order to qualify for membership into the Order of Omega, students must be of junior or senior status with a combined cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

The purpose of the society is:

  • To recognize those fraternity men and women who have attained a high standard of leadership in Interfraternity activities, to encourage them to continue along this line and to inspire others to strive for similar conspicuous attainment;
  • To bring together outstanding fraternity men and women to create an organization to help mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate fraternity affairs;
  • To bring together members of the faculty, alumni, and student members of the institution's fraternities and sororities on a basis of mutual interest, understanding and helpfulness; and
  • To help create an atmosphere where ideas and issues can be discussed openly across Greek lines and to help work out solutions.
