Alana Lesnansky of Youngstown, OH, named prestigious University Scholar at Youngstown State University

Alana Lesnansky of Youngstown, OH, a senior at Boardman High School, has been named a University Scholar at Youngstown State University - the most prestigious scholarship at the university.

The Leslie H. Cochran University Scholars Award, now in its 20th year, covers full tuition, room and board, as well as a voucher for textbooks. Lesnansky is among only 40 high school seniors from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Iowa and Washington State, including 18 valedictorians, to receive the award this year. Lesnansky will major in Biology and Dance.

The new class of University Scholars was presented Tuesday, May 8, to YSU President Cynthia E. Anderson at a luncheon on campus.

Now in its 20th year, the University Scholars program boasts nearly 650 alumni and is widely recognized for producing some of YSU's most successful graduates. In all, the program has attracted students from 19 states and six foreign countries. More than 300 of them were at the top of their high school classes when they came to YSU. Nearly 90 Scholar graduates have either completed or are in the process of completing a terminal degree.
